About The Village Nursery School
The Village Nursery School (VNS) is a beloved non-profit preschool in Farmington, CT, serving families for 68 continuous years. We offer a warm, inclusive, play-based environment that supports the emotional, social, and intellectual growth of children aged 2 years and 9 months to 5 years old. Our small, community-centered school is located in the heart of town, just steps from the library and the village green, creating endless opportunities for exploration and learning.

Our Team
At Village Nursery School, you’ll work alongside a full-time classroom teacher and become part of a team of three experienced, master’s-level educators who bring decades of expertise in early childhood education. Our teachers are passionate, collaborative, and dedicated to nurturing each child’s development with creativity and care.

Position Overview
We’re hiring a part-time Assistant Teacher to support our 3- and 4-year-old classrooms during the 2025–2026 school year (September through May). This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a joyful, child-centered setting and is eager to learn and grow with an experienced teaching team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Head Teacher to deliver age-appropriate, play-based lessons and activities

  • Prepare classroom materials and lesson tools

  • Assist with daily routines including arrival, transitions, and dismissal

  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom

  • Support and interact with children during play, group time, and meals

  • Assist children with bathroom needs as appropriate

  • Maintain required certifications: First Aid, CPR/AED, EpiPen, Medication Admin (State of CT)

  • Complete CT Office of Early Childhood (OEC) professional registry and background check requirements

  • Collaborate with the Head Teacher, Director, and Board of Directors as needed

Qualifications
 ✔ Bachelor’s or Early Childhood Education Associate’s degree required
✔ 1–3 years of experience as a teacher or paraprofessional
✔ Warm, caring nature and genuine enthusiasm for working with preschool-aged children
✔ Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
✔ Ability to meet the physical and emotional demands of working with young children
✔ Must pass all CT state-required background checks

Preferred Qualifications
 Certification in Early Childhood Education
Experience developing or supporting preschool curriculum

Job Details

  • Pay: $20.50/hour

  • Schedule: Approximately 21 hours/week

  • School Year: September 2025 – End of May 2026

  • Location: 67 Main Street, Farmington, CT
